How to Check the Status of Your Vietnam E-Visa Application & Download It

What is a Vietnam e-Visa?

Vietnam e-Visa (electronic visa) is one of several visa types issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department that allows foreigners to enter Vietnam. Without visiting a Vietnamese embassy/consulate or applying for a visa on arrival through a local agency, travelers can complete the entire e-Visa application online. This simplifies the process and saves time and travel expenses.

Validity:

An e-Visa is valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry. The exact validity will appear on the granted visa.

Conditions:

The e-Visa is accepted at 42 international border gates, including 13 airports, 16 land checkpoints, and 13 seaports. Since 15 August 2023, citizens of all countries and territories may apply online as long as they meet Vietnamese law and the conditions below:

  • Currently outside Vietnam
  • Passport valid at least six months from entry date and with two blank pages
  • Not subject to entry prohibition under Vietnamese law

When Should You Check Your Vietnam e-Visa?

Check your application regularly to confirm approval, download the visa for entry, and fix any issues promptly.

1 – After submitting the application

The system provides a registration code and sends a confirmation email. Save the code and check your email to confirm submission. If you do not receive it, check again after 3-5 days.

2 – Three to five business days after submission

Processing usually takes 3-5 working days. Check your status after this period. High volume may cause delays, so monitor daily and plan for possible rejections.

3 – Two to three days before entry

Confirm the following 2-3 days before departure:

  • Your e-Visa has been issued
  • All visa details are correct: name, passport number, nationality, validity, entry date, port of entry, number of entries

This still allows time to resolve problems with a local agency.

4 – If you do not receive any email

If you donot receive any confirmation email or result after 3-5 days, check spam/junk folders. You can also look up status on the e-Portal with your application code, email, and date of birth.

5 – Reconfirm visa information

Incorrect visa details may cause entry denial. Double check:

  • Full name, date of birth, nationality, passport number, passport expiry date
  • Visa validity and expiry date
  • Port of entry
  • Number of entries

6 – Re-download or re-print the visa

If you lose the printout or file, revisit the e-Portal (https://evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/search) to download and print again.

7 – Check other visa applications

Anyone with the registration code, email, and date of birth can check and print an e-Visa for another applicant.

What to Check on an Approved e-Visa

1 – Personal information

Ensure all personal data matches your passport.

2 – Visa validity

Check your visa’s entry and expiry dates. You may enter Vietnam on or after the entry date, but you must depart no later than the expiry date shown on your e-Visa.

3 – Visa type and entries

An e-Visa can be single or multiple entry. Apply for a new visa if your travel requires more entries than granted.

4 – Port of entry

Entry port is no longer written on the e-Visa, you now can enter/exit at any of the eligible ports:

Common Vietnam E-Visa Application Issues

1 – No email confirmation

Check all email folders. If the email address was incorrect, try the status lookup with the (wrong) email. Otherwise, submit a new application.

2 – No application found

If status shows “No results were found,” verify each character of your registration code, email, and date of birth.

3 – Wrong information on visa

The e-visa is invalid if it does not match your passport details. Submit a new application or use an urgent local visa service.

4 – Corrupted e-Visa file

If the PDF will not download or open:

  • Check your internet connection
  • Update or change your PDF reader
  • Try another browser

If problems persist, request a new file from Immigration.
